"You have a method of writing that when one reads it...there must be full concentration given. In other words, "The Annie Chase Story" is not a flimsily written book. It is written with thought, depth, and feeling....I could actually feel and visualize many parts of it."

"This is a courageous book, as well as being a book based on courage. Ms. Bennett has chosen to write about a situation fraught with sensitive issues of race and womanhood and given us a story that is a frank assessment of our nation’s struggle with equality for persons of all skin color. It is written with such deft finesse that the reader will subconsciously blend their own history and emotions into the unfolding drama of the heroines’ struggles."
"The Annie Chase Story has a touch of the best Danielle Steele in its easy style, making it an enjoyable read for the true novel fan while it unabashedly addresses some weighty issues of our country’s recent past. Following the lives of two charming young girls, who once innocently pledged their friendship, as they grow to women shaping the world at high levels, this book tells the story of loyalty and courage and should be on everyone’s list to read next."

"I am still enjoying having just read your wonderful book. I didn't want
it to end. Will your book be available in bookstores soon? I have been
telling everyone about it and I want them to buy it and read. Someone
MUST make a movie about it. What a heartwarming and meaningful story.
You are amazing. However, I was not surprised. I always knew from the
little I had read of yours that you were in the elite league of the best.
I can't tell you enough how happy I am for you."

"Just finished your fine book. Very well-written with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Your characters were finely drawn and very believable. I especially liked your descriptions of Annie. The story of Jessie and Annie resonates with honesty, love and friendship. I see why Behler published it. Great job! I’ll recommend it to my friends." Judy Digregorio, Author |

Although you know this already, it deserves to be repeated, your mom is a
wonderful writer. Between the laughter and the tears I was hooked from the
first page. A sign of a great book for me is being almost finished and not
wanting to read those last few chapters only because I don't want it to be
over. I'm taking the book to Phoenix to share with my mom. I know she will
love it too. Please tell the minute the sequel is published.
What a wonderful gift you've all given me, thanks again to you, Sherri and
your mom.

My neighbor here at Panama City Beach, Florida, greeted me on my arrival
from Pennsylvania with a copy of your book to read. Joan Mock is my
neighbor and a classmate of yours. Both she and her husband, Newell,
had just finished reading The Annie Chase Story and could hardly wait
for me to read it and give my opinion.
I absolutely could hardly put the book down because it was so filled
with the feelings of the time and of the two girls in the story. Their
friendship was a life-time one ... with a few misaprehensions now and
then ... but always coming back to the blood vows they took as
youngsters.
I'm a Northerner and didn't realize the social lines between blacks and
whites like it was in the South. Your book very tastefully brought out
the differences and how black nannies instilled good training with the
white children they cared for. My heart broke when Annie, as the
President's wife, had her little daughter being cared for by the same
woman who helped raise her ... and the nannie died at the White House
... with little Emily searching for her friend and wondering where she
went.
The hiding of Annie's background was intertwined throughout the story.
You brought out the deep feelings of secrecy and what Annie thought was
deception to her husband. The accident that killed the President and
the First Lady seemed to be the only way to solve the problem. Annie
was beloved by the public as the First Lady ... even though they did not
know she was part Negro ... which proves that skin color should not be
the way to judge people.
Thank you for such a wonderful book. Joan and Newell Mock were so happy
that I thought the same as they did about your writing talent. We can
hardly wait to read your next book.
Sincerely,
Carole A. Fibick |
